Microsoft reinvents web surfing with AI-driven Edge and upgraded Copilot

New Delhi: After OpenAI introduced the Atlas web browser, Microsoft wanted to compete with this tech giant, so recently they have introduced a lot of latest features for its Edge browser, transforming it into what the company describes as an AI browser. And according to the company, the latest Copilot Mode update puts the artificial intelligence at the heart of web browsing, giving users a hands-on assistant capable of filling forms, summarising pages, reasoning across multiple tabs, and even guiding web actions.

The CEO of Microsoft AI has described this latest update as a significant leap towards an intelligent, context-aware web companion. Copilot Mode in Edge is evolving into an AI browser that is users’ dynamic, the smart companion. With the user permission, Copilot can see the reasons why users open tabs, summarise and compare information, and take actions like booking hotels or filling out forms.

Copilot Mode adds a range of AI-powered tools, which include a dynamic pane that keeps the context of the user’s webpage visible as the user moves through tasks. One of the most highlighted features in Microsoft’s AI browser is the Copilot’s latest ability to guide users through their tab-heavy workflows. The latest Journey feature, for instance, lets the Copilot track related tabs, showing how the searches and pages connect over time.

And to maintain privacy, Microsoft insists that the users’ control and data protection remain at the centre of these latest features. The company asserts that the Copilot only accesses open tabs or performs actions with the explicit permission, and AI features can be turned off entirely at any time. Microsoft also noted that Copilot Mode adheres to its existing security and performance standards, and addresses growing concerns over how the AI assistants handle the personal data of users.
