Meta poaches another Apple Executive as tech giants fight for AI talent

New Delhi: Another leave from Apple, and he was Ke Yang, the newly tapped executive leading an effort to develop a ChatGPT-like AI-driven web search, is stepping down to join Meta. Just weeks ago, Yang was appointed head of the team called Answers, Knowledge and the Information, or AKI, which is central to the Siri voice assistant’s overhaul, planned for March, some sources claimed. Apple, Meta and Yang did not immediately respond to the source’s requests for comment.

Ke Yang has been with Apple since 2019. Meta has intensified Silicon Valley’s talent war through aggressive hiring, aiming to challenge rivals, including OpenAI, Google, and Anthropic, as tech giant firms pour significant investment into AI in the race to superintelligence. The Mark Zuckerberg-led company has poached top AI executives from the iPhone maker before, including Robby Walker and Ruoming Pang, as earlier reported by some sources.

Apple’s internal restructuring and delays in rolling out the Apple intelligence features have been reported to have frustrated many employees. The latest Siri experience, initially expected to debut in March next year, has already faced multiple setbacks. Meanwhile, Apple’s senior vice president of AI, John Giannandrea, has stated that to reduce his role, the company is reported to be seeking the latest leadership to revive its AI strategy.
