The platform is designed to help advertisers create alternative copies, generate backgrounds through text prompts, and crop images for Facebook or Instagram ads. These features are aimed at making it easier for advertisers to create different versions of their ads for different audiences while keeping the core message of the ad intact.

The first feature of the AI Sandbox allows brands to generate multiple variations of the same copy for different audiences. At present, these features are only available to a select group of advertisers. Meta plans to expand access to more advertisers in July after receiving feedback from its initial test group. Meta’s announcement comes after the company reported positive quarterly results for Q1 2023, beating analyst expectations and posting year-on-year revenue growth for the first time in three quarters. While Meta is releasing some lightweight generative AI features for advertisers, some ad tech startups are heavily leaning into it. Omneky and Movio are using generative AI to create ads and marketing videos, respectively.
