New Delhi: Meta has recently started to upgrade how users manage their accounts across its applications and devices by unveiling an improved Meta Account system. This change replaces the existing Accounts Center, and it also brings applications like Threads, Instagram, and Meta AI under one place.
And with Meta Account, the users will be able to log in across applications by using one set of credentials, to manage shared settings like passwords and security options in one place, and quickly set up the latest applications or devices without creating separate accounts each time.
This idea is to reduce friction as people increasingly use multiple Meta services, while also adding better security tools such as passkeys and centralized account protection.
Meta Account also builds on the current Accounts Center, but it’s specially designed to be more centralized. The rollout will happen gradually over the next year, and existing users will automatically be moved to the latest system. All connected applications and devices will appear in one place.
Users will be notified when their account switches, but Meta stated that day-to-day usage of applications will remain the same. People can continue using Facebook, Instagram, and other services as usual, without needing to relearn anything.
In terms of WhatsApp, the integration will going to remain optional for users; if the user has already linked it to Accounts Center, it will go over. It will continue to function separately, with its end-to-end encryption unchanged.
Users can choose to use a single password across Meta applications and devices, reducing the need to remember multiple credentials. This system also makes it easier to set up the latest applications or devices without creating separate accounts each time.
Passkeys, which allows the users to login by using biometrics like fingerprints or face recognition, will now work across more applications, including Instagram. Its systems will continue to monitor accounts for suspicious activity and offer security recommendations, such as allowing two-factor authentication.
Common settings like passwords, email addresses, and security options can be controlled from one place rather than being upgraded separately for each application which get easier for the users.
App-specific settings will remain unchanged. Meta Account is focused on making it easier to manage multiple services as Meta expands its ecosystem.
