New Delhi: WhatsApp has been working on this new feature, which it terms “chat memory.” It seems to enhance the way users interact with its Meta AI chatbot. The feature will see the AI remember the details of things as users share them in real-time conversations, so the features can deliver very personalized responses and suggestions based on each user’s preferences.
What Chat Memory Does
Personalized Conversations: Because of chat memory, Meta AI will remember things like your interest, whether you take something vegetarian, or if you communicate to a certain level of complexity. The AI might remind the user that it already knows he is a vegetarian by trying to suggest vegetarian restaurants when he asks for restaurant recommendations. The AI might remember your favorite song or hobby and make later chats more like talking with a close friend.
User Control: You are in control of your AI as far as what is remembered. Anything saved by the AI can be viewed, updated, or deleted at any point. Really, this boils down to trust and allaying concerns about privacy.
How It Works: Not very dissimilar from memory features in other AI utilities, like ChatGPT, the chat memory will automatically record important details from a conversation when it is turned on. That way, interactions can become increasingly meaningful and relevant over time.
Current Development and Future Plans
The feature has been spotted on the latest WhatsApp beta version, v2.24.22.9, and is still under development. WhatsApp hasn’t even announced an official date for the launch, yet it can be expected to feature in future updates.
Benefits:
Improved User Experience: Meta AI can make conversations easier, smoother, and more engaging by remembering past chats. It could also lead to quicker, more accurate responses.
Concern for Privacy: This feature would exploit the personal advantage, but some users may be concerned about what is done with the information stored and whether that stored information is safe. Intensive privacy protections would reassure them and urge them to use the chat memory feature.
