New Delhi: MediaTek has released its first new chip of a fresh lineup of processors it is calling Dimensity CX C10 Max, which stands for “Computing Experience. This is MediaTek’s first venture into a new category of laptop chips, designed to go into thin, light and smart machines.
The chip is produced by a tiny 3nm chip manufacturing process from chipmaker TSMC, which allows for power efficiency and performance. The idea is for a new type of laptop known as Googlebook, combining Android and ChromeOS, and packed with Google’s Gemini AI tools. Big laptop makers such as Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP and Lenovo will be producing the Googlebook PCs, and Google promises ten years of software upgrades.
The chip has 8 processor cores divided into 3 types to perform various tasks, and additional memory was embedded which facilitates the proper functioning of the chip. It has an 11-core graphics card. The chip is also equipped with a powerful AI processor capable of processing up to 55 trillion operations per second. This will enable the laptop to perform smart functions such as providing useful suggestions or summarizing files directly on the laptop, without relying on internet connections.
The processor in the wireless processor also going to supports up to 32MP cameras, allows for better video calls, more crisp and detailed HDR photos and smoother zoom functionality. It is compatible with the latest Bluetooth and 6GHz Wi-Fi 7. It can also integrate into the fast memory and storage, and support to connect multi-monitor simultaneously.
This chip will enable companies to make laptops that are thinner, lighter and perhaps even fanless fans are not required in-built while remaining very battery efficient, MediaTek claims. It will be used in an upcoming Lenovo Googlebook laptop, and will be running alongside Intel and Qualcomm’s chips in this new generation of devices.
