Magic Leap joins forces with Google for Android XR Glasses revolution

New Delhi: Google has recently announced the partnership with Magic Leap, which is going to take force on the US-based augmented reality technology company. They have unveiled the prototype and reference design for the Android XR glasses at the Future Investment Initiative event in Riyadh. This latest demo marks the first public look at the company’s joint hardware concept. Magic Leap has also added that the prototype, developed by using Google’s Raxium microLED light engine and Magic Leap’s waveguide and optics technology, generally aims to deliver high clarity, comfortable visuals suitable for all-day wear.

It will provide in-lens visuals that will blend digital overlays with the real world; both companies described it as the reference design for the Android XR ecosystem rather than the consumer product. Magic Leap optics, display systems, and the hardware expertise have been essential to advancing their Android XR glasses concept to life. Magic Leap also confirmed that its latest partnership with Google has been extended through the latest three-year agreement, with the companies continuing joint work on display technologies, optics integration, and manufacturability.

The prototype serves as the reference design to help other manufacturers in the Android XR ecosystem build their own AR glasses. It combines Google’s light engine with Magic Leap’s display stack to merge digital visuals with the physical world through an in-lens display, which is similar to the Meta Ray-Ban Display glasses launched earlier this year. This device has also been previewed following the debut of Samsung’s Galaxy XR headset earlier this month and offers the first look at the latest Android XR glasses since Google demoed them at its 2025 I/O developer conference. Magic Leap and Google haven’t shared plans for the commercial release of the device based on the prototype.
