New Delhi: Apple has announced a service program for specific 2023 Mac mini models with the M2 chip that may experience a critical issue, causing them to no longer power on. The company states that the problem affects a tiny percentage of units manufactured between June 16, 2024, and November 23, 2024, and is offering free repairs for the eligible devices.
If any user’s Mac mini falls within the affected window and has experienced the ‘no power’ issue, Apple urges the user to check their device’s serial number using the lookup tool on its support site. Devices that qualify will be serviced free to charge, either at Apple Stores or through Apple Authorised Service Providers.
This is a global repair program, though Apple notes that service may be restricted to the original country or region of purchase. That’s something international buyers or users who have relocated to another country may want to keep in mind. Notably, although the service is free, it does not extend the Mac mini’s standard warranty. Instead, Apple says the program will cover eligible units for three years from the original retail sale date, providing customers with a generous service window even if they’re outside the typical one-year warranty or AppleCare+ coverage period.
The Mac mini with M2 was launched as part of Apple’s growing lineup of Apple Silicon-based Macs, praised for its compact size and performance-to-price ratio. Although Apple hasn’t specified the exact cause of the power failure, such programs are typically introduced only after a consistent hardware flaw has been identified.
If the users have a 2023 Mac mini and are experiencing power issues, it’s worth checking the user’s serial number now. Even if the user’s device is still functional, this program could serve as a crucial safety net down the line.
