New Delhi: Apple’s foray into foldable phones has just arrived. The company unveiled the first folding iPhone the iPhone Duo on Sept. 9, 2026. It is now up against Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold8 and phone enthusiasts want to see who is best.
A new shape for Apple
Samsung has had the experience of making foldable phones for seven years. The Galaxy Z Fold8 still retains the Galaxy’s signature long, thin design and has been on sale since July of 2026. However, the inner screen unfolds like a mini tablet, perfect for typing documents, surfing the web, streaming on this display feels amazing and for running two apps at once.
Apple didn’t. The iPhone Duo isn’t built like Samsung, opening tall, but it’s also very wide, almost book-shaped. The cover screen is also larger than Samsung’s and thus looks more like a regular iPhone when folded up. One of the reasons for the Duo’s popularity is its wide shape, which will undoubtedly be the differentiator from everything that’s previously been released as a foldable phone.
Price and what’s inside
The iPhone Duo will be priced at $1,999. The Galaxy Z Fold8, on the other hand, is a little more affordable, ranging from a lower price to higher tiers depending on storage capacity. For those who wish to have the best of the best, Samsung also has a more expensive Fold8 Ultra model that has a larger screen and a more powerful camera package.
Samsung have an impressive range of cameras at their disposal at the moment. The Fold8 sports three rear cameras, an extremely sharp 200-megapixel main lens. Apple’s preference for two cameras makes the Duo simpler, but it should still shoot the good shots that Apple is known for.
Both the phones have a tough material such as titanium to reduce the fold screen crease. The hinge and crease of Samsung are more proven extensively with years of practice, while those of Samsung rivals have yet to be thoroughly tested. The Duo’s crease isn’t obvious as yet, but this is Apple’s first foray into the area and it seems that they’re not far behind.
So, who wins?
The Galaxy Z Fold8 is winning right now in terms of what’s available right now: it’s available in stores, its camera is more powerful, and Samsung has years of experience in making an evolved design. But there’s a significant advantage the iPhone Duo has, too. Its larger screen design, close integration with iOS and iPad applications, and massive following by Apple fans may attract a new generation of buyers who previously had no desire for a foldable phone.
Samsung wins in terms of the presence of a good product and option, and Apple wins for introducing something new. The one that’s really “best” might not be as much about specs and so on as it is the person’s existing fondness for iPhones or Androids.
