Instagram’s ‘Reposts’ and ‘Map’ features aim to boost transparency & exploration

New Delhi: Instagram has recently announced that it will be adding the latest features to its application, aiming to improve the users’ experience and help them connect better on the social media platform. Meta also stated that the company has introduced several new ways to help users connect better with their friends and strangers. According to some sources, users can now use options like the Reposts, the Map and the friends tab in Reels, which would make it easier for friends to stay in touch for better communication.

The repost feature would allow users to easily share others’ content with their own followers and friends. It would be easier to share interests with their friends. Reposts will be recommended to your friends and followers’ feeds, and they’ll also be in a separate tab on users’ profiles, so users can always go back to revisit their friends’ reposts, as stated by Meta.

These features will offer users a location-sharing map with their friends and family, which is pretty similar to Snapchat’s map feature, enabling users to explore locations and see where their friends are posting from. Users can opt in to sharing their last active location with their friends, and users can turn it off anytime if they want to. Users can also open the map to see content from their friends and favorite creators who are posting from interesting or fun locations. No matter how users use the map, they and their friends have a new, lightweight way to connect with each other.

A latest friends tab in the Reels section allows users to view videos their friends have interacted with, prompting social connectivity and engagement. They have introduced friends, a new tab in the Reels where the users can see the public content, their friends have interacted with, or recommendations from Blends users started, and they can easily start conversations about them. Friends will help users to see which reels the people they care about the most create and engage with. Meta has started rolling out friends earlier this year, and is now excited to launch it globally.
