Instagram tests new feature letting creators add links in captions

New Delhi: Meta has recently experimented with a new feature on Instagram that will enable clickable links directly inside the post captions. Instagram has recently confirmed to it that links in the captions are being tested, but they are currently limited to Meta Verified subscribers. The users can only add links in the Stories, Reels, and their profile bio. Some of the users rely on the link in bio tools to direct followers to external websites.

Meta also rolls out the clickable links in the captions more widely; it could change how the creators share the links with their audience. The test was first spotted by the blogger who shared the screenshots by showing a clickable Substack link inside an Instagram caption.

The blogger has also received an in-application notification indicating that users can share up to 10 links per month through captions.

This functionality has been reported to have several limitations in its current form. The clickable link appears when viewing the post through Instagram’s mobile applications. The same post does not show a clickable link when accessed through Instagram’s website.

It is currently testing the ability to add links to captions for the Meta Verified subscribers. Meta did not offer any details about how many of the users are included in the test or whether the feature will be rolling out more broadly. It is unclear whether the monthly limit of 10 links will remain if the feature extends.

Meta has also announced a new safety feature for Instagram last month that will notify parents if their teen repeatedly searches for self-harm-related terms within a short period of time. This also includes searching for phrases that indicate they want to harm themselves, such as general terms like suicide or self-harm.

The alerts will apply to families by using Instagram’s parental supervision tools and are part of the platform’s broader efforts to strengthen protections for teen users.
