Instagram tests ‘AI Creator’ badge for digital content accounts

New Delhi: Instagram has been reported to be experimenting with a new feature to inform users when content is made using AI. This application is now testing with an optional AI creator label that users can also add to their profiles to suggest that their content is created or edited by using AI.

This move also comes as the AI tools are increasingly used to generate images, videos, and edits that can be difficult to distinguish from the real content. With more such posts appearing across the feeds and Reels, Instagram is now trying to offer users a clearer context about what they are seeing.

The label is not mandatory, and many AI-generated posts might still appear without any clear identification.

This latest label will appear on the creator’s profile, along with their posts and Reels. It also clearly states that the account will share content that has been generated or modified with AI. This also makes it more direct and noticeable than Instagram’s current AI info tags, which only suggest that the post might include AI-generated elements.

Instagram is also trying to offer users a broader understanding of the creator’s content style rather than of tagging posts one by one.

This test is now part of the broader push by Meta to improve transparency around AI content. As AI tools now become easier to access, more creators are using them to make images, videos, and edits that can be difficult to tell apart from the real content.

The latest label is actually meant to raise the bar on AI transparency. It also aims to help the users understand when what they are seeing might not be entirely created by humans.
