New Delhi: Instagram has revamped its branding in almost a decade but the social media giant isn’t making any drastic changes to its iconic logo. The firm has also unveiled a fresh take on its “Instagram” wordmark, which keeps to the same colourful camera icon look, but has a new design.
The evolution has begun to garner online awareness as many users have commented on the differences in writing the Instagram name. The new wordmark keeps the essence of the brand as users have come to know it over the years with minimal changes, while presenting a cleaner, more modern silhouette overall.

Instagram’s previous wordmark has been used for around a decade. The update forms part of the wider move by the platform to rebrand for the new functionality it’s introducing in the game, as well as against other social media platforms.
Instagram’s Camera Logo Is Not Changing
One of the more significant changes to Instagram with the update is that their beloved camera icon remains intact.
The same colourful gradient icon with the familiar outline of a camera is used. It doesn’t imply that consumers can anticipate that this update will bring a totally new Instagram Icon as a result.
In contrast, the primary difference lies with the Instagram name’s lettering. The letters have been reworked to give the wordmark a more contemporary and distinct feel.
The revamp to the Instagram brand has also been confirmed by the company’s head of Instagram, Adam Mosseri. The company seems to be trying to make the design look more contemporary, yet still be a part of Instagram’s legacy.
New Design Gets Mixed Reactions
The new wordmark has sparked some mixed reactions on the web. Some people like the cleaner look, while others have noted a strange look of the new lettering in comparison to the old.
Even some users have commented in a fun and amusing way about the new design, which can be compared and reminded that the wordmark looks different enough to make the Instagram name less recognizable if you saw it the first time.
But the modification is not as huge as a full re-design of the logo. The other thing Instagram hasn’t changed is the iconic, rainbow-coloured camera.
Why Instagram Made the Change
Instagram has come a long way since the beginnings when they were called WhatsApp’s Instagram. Today, new features are set to be added, including Reels, Stories, direct messaging, shopping and creator tools.
When considering your company’s brand, it’s important to keep it in-line and up to date without making a drastic change that may cause some confusion in the minds of your users.
The iconic Instagram camera is still staying at for a time. The updated Instagram, for the most part, is a redo of the Instagram wordmark after a decade out.
So, the correct description of the change isn’t that Instagram is switching out its logo, it’s that they are replacing the wordmark.
