New Delhi: Recently, Meta has officially announced the debut of Bill Payments on WhatsApp, by enabling the users to find, manage and pay household bills without switching to another apps. WhatsApp is now making everyday bill payments easier in India by bringing the service directly into its applications. This feature is being rolling out gradually across India and will going to reach Android and iOS users over the coming weeks. This latest service is powered by the Bharat Connect (BBPS) network and offers the users access to 22,722 billers across 30 categories.
This going to include electricity, gas, water, FASTag, insurance, credit card payments and loan repayments. This might going to make WhatsApp more useful for people who are already use the application regularly for communication, recharges and other digital services.
One Place for everyday bills
One of the major changes is that the users will no longer going need to move between different applications to pay different bills. A latest ₹ icon at the top of the WhatsApp home screen will offer access to the bill payment section. Users can select a bill category and choose their biller. After entering and confirming their account details, WhatsApp will going to fetch the bill amount. Users can the review the bill details and complete the payment by using UPI, debit card or credit card.
The company is also adding features to make regular payments easier to manage. Biils that have already been paid via the service will going to appear on the Payments Home section for quick access. Users can also manage multiple accounts with the similar biller, such as bills for their home, office or family members, from one place.
Less app switching and easier bill management
The main advantage of the latest feature is convenience. Rather than of remembering different bill payments applications and websites, users can handle some everyday payments via an application they already use. This launch also builds on WhatsApp’s growing payments services in India. Earlier this year, Meta has unveiled prepaid mobile recharges for Jio, Airtel and Vi via WhatsApp, alongside central ₹ icon for accessing payment related services.
With the bill payments now joining these services, WhatsApp is now moving beyond messaging and becoming more complete platform for everyday digital tasks in India.
