HarmonyOS gains momentum with over 100M shipments worldwide

New Delhi: Huawei has gained momentum with the strong record it has created for its company. Huawei’s HarmonyOS software has surpassed a significant shipping milestone, according to some sources. Since the launch of the platform in 2019, the Chinese tech giant has shipped over 100 million smartphones powered by HarmonyOS.

According to the Canalys data reveals that by the end of 2024, the Huawei has sold around total of 103 million HarmonyOS smartphones which is an milestone for the Huawei itself and, with 46 million of those units shipped in 2024. This achievement underscores Huawei’s strong presence in the domestic market, especially in China, where HarmonyOS has become an essential part of the company’s expanding their ecosystem.

The expansion of HarmonyOS isn’t limited to smartphones. Canalys notes that Huawei has shipped 21 million HarmonyOS tablets to date, with 10.5 million of those units sold in 2024. Initially launched in 2019 and rolled out broadly across consumer devices by mid-2021, HarmoneyOS now serves as the primary platform for a wide range of Huawei products.

Beyond phones and tablets, HarmonyOS power wearables, audio devices, smart home equipment, and, increasingly, personal computers. According to Canalys, Huawei shipped 4.2 million PCs in China, including 3.2 million notebooks.

However, Huawei is preparing to introduce the next major version of its operating system, HarmonyOS 6.0, later this year. The update is expected to deepen the system’s integration of artificial intelligence and distributed computing. Canalys suggests that Huawei’s tight integration of hardware and software is helping the company position HarmonyOS as a sustainable alternative to global operating systems, at least within the Chinese market.
