Google’s YouTube explores AI Avatars for video creation

New Delhi: YouTube is preparing to roll out its latest AI-powered avatar feature that will let users create a digital version of themselves for Shorts. This tool will enable users to generate a photorealistic avatar by using their face and voice, making it possible to appear in videos without recording each time.

This feature is now part of YouTube’s broader push into AI-driven video creation for making the content creation more flexible for the users while maintaining the user privacy and control.

This feature will enable users to generate a photorealistic avatar by capturing a live selfie. This also includes recording their face and voice by reading a few prompts. Once it’s been created, the avatar can be used to generate short video clips, with each AI-generated segment lasting up to eight seconds.

The users can also create multiple clips and combine them to form a longer Short. The avatar creation process is now available within the main YouTube application as well as YouTube Create. After completing the one-time setup, the users can also reuse the avatar for future videos or upgrade it anytime they want by re-recording their appearance and voice.

This feature is built on Google’s existing AI video efforts, its Veo models, which are integrated into YouTube Shorts. Earlier tools enabled users to create videos by using images, and the addition of voice-based avatars unveiled more personalized and interactive elements to content creation.

This feature is especially designed to help users include themselves in videos in a safe and secure way. It emphasized that the recorded selfie video and voice data are used only to generate the avatar and cannot be accessed or used by others.

The users can also retain full control by including the option to delete their avatar at any time. Any videos already created using the avatar will remain on the platform unless they are manually removed.

All videos are created by using avatars and will include watermarks and digital labels such as SynthID and C2PA, alongside clear disclosures suggesting AI-generated content.
