New Delhi: Google just launched its digital wallet in India, which lets people store things like boarding passes, gift cards, and event tickets on their phones. This comes after it was first introduced in the U.S. a couple of years ago. But don’t worry, Google Pay isn’t going anywhere – it’s still the main way to pay with Google in India.
The new Google Wallet app is all about storing stuff besides just payments. You can add things to it using QR codes, barcodes, or links sent through email. And if you have a ticket or pass with a barcode on it, you can just snap a picture and add it to your wallet.
Right now, Google Wallet works with about 20 different brands in India, like Flipkart and Air India. It even works with some local transport services. Plus, if your workplace uses special badges, you can store those in the app too.
Since most people in India use Android phones, Google thought it made sense to bring Wallet here. But it’s not the only digital wallet around – Samsung and Apple have their own versions too. And WhatsApp lets you get digital tickets and passes too, though it’s not quite as full-featured as Google’s offering.
