New Delhi: Google has made a significant change in leadership in the field of AI, indicated by the announcement of one of its biggest leadership changes in AI. It follows the acceleration of the competition with OpenAI, Anthropic and other AI firms.
Part of the changes, DeepMind’s CEO Demis Hassabis will also move up the ranks, becoming the Chairman of Google DeepMind and Alphabet’s Chief Scientist. He will no longer be involved in everyday businesses, instead, he is now dedicated to long-term AI research, development of the Artificial General Intelligence (AGI), and how AI can affect society. Meanwhile, DeepMind’s Chief Technology Officer Koray Kavukcuoglu will handle the day-to-day operations of AI in the company, and he is responsible for developing new instances of the Gemini AI.
The leadership switch takes place at an opportune time for Google. The firm has been currently making a lot of strides with its Gemini AI models, but it’s been put under significant pressure from other competitors like OpenAI and Anthropic.
