Google Images turns 25 with new homepage design and AI image generation features

New Delhi: Google is marking the 25th anniversary of Google Images with a new home page design and new features of its AI image generator. The update will focus on improving people’s searching, interactive, and personal experience of images internationally.

Perhaps most significantly, the revamped appearance of Google Images’ homepage. The search bar was the prominent element on the home page until now. They will begin to see a unique stream of images based on their interests with the new update for logged-in users. The cul-de-sac’s photos and visuals will be suggestions before users even type a search, Google says. This will make it easier for people to find ideas, inspiration, and helpful content,” the company adds.

The new home page also has enhanced functionalities for Collections, where users can save and categorize images. These store collections are also highlighted in tabs above the image feed to make it easier to find previous collections that have been saved. The new experience is likely to be first available for logged-in consumer desktop PCs in the United States via the English language, and will be expanded broadly at a later time. Google takes AI-generated images straight to users in the search engine with AI Overviews, alongside the reimagined home page. This feature is powered by Google’s Nano Banana 2 Lite AI model. Users can now generate a new image without having to find a pre-existent image from the Internet, just by giving it a description.

For instance, if a person wants to design a room, they might input a prompt that is something like “help me envision a modern living room with wood furniture”, or “show me the tropical garden. Google will then produce “AI-generated images” that match the description. This makes it easier for users to come up with ideas if they don’t want to use a picture that’s online. Google also pointed out the progress of Google Images since its launch in 2001. These innovations, such as Google Lens, Circle to Search, and reverse image search, have been important features of the service over the last 25 years. These tools have revolutionized searching with pictures, as well as text.

Google’s newest announcements reflect the company’s ongoing commitment to the fusion of AI and visual search. The use of recommended images and AI-generated images in search and creating images in the search result will help people save time and find what they need more easily, the company believes. With the integration of AI into more of Google’s products, Google Images is morphing from a mere method of searching for images into a more creative and interactive search experience for consumers.
