New Delhi: Samsung has started to preparing to discontinue its native Messages application in the US by July 2026 and is asking users to move to Google Messages rather than. Samsung has also announced the move via an End of Service Announcement, stating that the application will stop working after the deadline.
This change will going to marks the shift in Samsung’s messaging approach, as it moves away from its own applications and it will also aligns more closely with the Google’s platform for a more consistent Android experience for users. Google Messages has been positioned as the default alternative, with Samsung also guiding users through the transition.
The users will no longer be able to send messages through Samsung Messages after it is discontinued by the company. The only exception will be emergency services or pre-defined emergency contacts on the device. After July 2026, this application will also going to be removed from the Galaxy Store, which generally means it cannot be downloaded again.
The company has also advised to the users to switch to Google Messages to continue using the messaging services without disruption. Samsung has stated to users that they should upgrade their messaging experience by making Google Messages their default SMS application on their Samsung devices.
To make the shift easier, Samsung has also shared a step-by-step guide for the users, with in-application notifications and instructions. On devices that are running Android 14 and above versions, the Google Messages application icon might automatically move to the home screen dock once the switch is complete.
