New Delhi: Google is now planning to unveil its Gemini AI application, marking the potential shift from its current ad-free experience. Google is now exploring many ways to monetize the chatbot, with its senior executive suggesting during the latest earnings call that advertising is now being actively considered.
This move, if implemented, would align closely with OpenAI’s recent move to test ads for ChatGPT Free and Go plan users. Google is open-minded about exploring the possibility of ads inside the Gemini application.
Google is also exploring featuring the ads within its Gemini, but stated there are no ads in the Gemini application, and there are no current plans to change that. Google has already been testing with ad formats in AI Overviews and its AI Mode for Search.
If these formats prove to be effective and user-friendly, they might be expanded to Gemini as well. Gemini currently offers paid subscription tiers with additional features; these might not be sufficient to support the rising cost associated with AI development.
Google might use the scale of its AI infrastructure and sustain further growth in the space. It means that their ad-free Gemini application experience might require a higher-tier subscription.
Ads are selected based on the context of the user’s conversation, alongside past interactions, to ensure relevance.
