Remake surprise? Sands of Time may drop Prince of Persia ahead of schedule

New Delhi: Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time Remake’s trailer was released last summer, revealing a 2026 release window. Now, Ubisoft has further narrowed that timeline. According to some sources, the company listed the remake among the titles expected to contribute to revenue in the next fiscal year, FY2025-26, in its earnings reports for FY2024-25. This suggests the long-awaited game is set to launch by March 2026. Initially announced with the January 2021 release date, the game has faced multiple delays. Over the past four years, the remake has been repeatedly pushed back.

This title also led to changes in development studios and reports of a complete reboot. Now in development at Ubisoft Montreal, the remake is finally back on schedule, four years after its initial launch date. Ubisoft in its earning reports mentioned that, “The FY2025-26 guidance will benefit from strong back-catalog that will notably rely on the Assassin’s Creed Shadows and the release of Siege X which is expected to strongly grow franchise net bookings, regular partnerships as well as the following line-up: anno 117: Pax Romana, Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time remake, Rainbow Six Mobile and The Division Resurgence. Other titles will be announced at a later stage.

Alongside the release confirmation, the video game company also confirmed that the delays of some of its most anticipated titles were intended to allow for more development time and to improve game quality. The decision, according to Ubisoft, has already yielded positive results for Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, which is now one of its most highly rated games in recent years.

According to some sources, Ubisoft stated that after a thorough review of its pipeline from October to December, the Group decided to allocate additional development time to showcase its biggest productions, thereby creating the best conditions for success. This decision has already been beneficial to the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows. As a consequence, FY2026-27 and FY2027-28 are expected to see significant growth. The company has not yet officially named the titles that the delays will impact. They are already two months into the current financial year, and all that remains is to wait for an official release date announcement, which is expected to come anytime soon.
