Qualcomm’s Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme promises blazing speed

New Delhi: Qualcomm has officially announced the second generation of its Snapdragon X series processors for Windows laptops, unveiling two latest variants, the Snapdragon X2 Elite and Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme. Qualcomm is positioning the latest chips as its most powerful yet, with the promises of faster computing performance, stronger graphics, and dedicated improvements for AI-based tasks. This Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is the highlight of the launch, the reason is that it is built on a 3nm process, the chip features Qualcomm’s latest Oryon CPU architecture with as many as 18 cores.

However, most of these cores can reach speeds up to 4.4GHz, two of them can push further to 5GHz, the first for the ARM-based CPUs. Qualcomm claims this design allows the Extreme edition, which is going to deliver up to 75% higher CPU performance compared to rival processors when operating at the same power levels. Graphics are also seeing a notable push forward; the updated Adreno GPU now runs at 1.85GHz and promises more than double the performance per watt over last year’s Snapdragon X Elite. To further enhance gaming on Windows laptops, Qualcomm has added 18MB of high-speed cache memory, which it is calling Adreno High Performance Memory. The company admits gaming on ARM laptops still needs refinements, but it stated this change will support the titles running more smoothly.

Artificial Intelligence is another area where Qualcomm has raised the bar; the latest Hexagon NPU inside the Snapdragon X2 series is rated for 80 TOPS, which the company claims is the highest performance among laptop NPUs recently. This chip is stated to it will deliver a 37% boost in AI performance while consuming 16% less power. In real-world terms, this translates to faster rendering and analysis in the creative tools. Adobe applications, for instance, are expected to benefit from the quicker edits in Photoshop and the faster exports in Lightroom.

Power efficiency remains central to the Qualcomm’s pitch, according the company laptops with the latest X2 chips will be able to run for multiple days on the single charge, last year’s Snapdragon X Elite laptops achieved between 14 and 18 hours of use, and Qualcomm stated the latest design pushes endurance further even on systems drawing over 50W power, a sign that its processors will now scale beyond thin and light notebooks into the more powerful laptops categories. Connectivity continues to be the strong suit both Snapdragon X2 Elite and Elite Extreme come with the support for the Wi-Fi 7 and 5G, keeping the Qualcomm’s emphasis on always connected PCs intact.
