New arcade version of Resident Evil 2 will test your reflexes, not just your nerves

New Delhi: Capcom and Bandai Namco have partnered to create a new on-rails arcade cabinet, which will be called Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot. The light gun shooter features five different chapters, where players pick up a pistol and fire away at the numerous monsters infesting the Raccoon City Police Department. The cabinet is currently only available at Namco Funscape in the UK, as it undergoes early testing. The user can see early footage of the game through IGN.

Resident Evil 2: Dead Aim appears to be a fairly standard light gun shooter among arcade users. Users aim their guns at the screen and shoot at enemies that rush in and attack them. Reloading is a little bit different, though. Rather than pushing the button on the gun or cocking it back, users aim the gun away from the screen and fire to reload. This way of reloading is faster than the automatic reload users do when they run out of bullets. That seems like an odd decision, but it could just be a placeholder for a game that is essentially in beta.

While Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot will have five chapters when it’s ready, the current test version only has two available: the prologue and a chapter called Hunted, which will feature Mr. X. Ada is featured on the outside of the cabinet, so the future chapter will likely feature her in the place of Claire. Maybe the voices sound weird through the IGN’s video, but it sounds like completely different voice actors to us, so that might throw some hardcore fans of the game off.

The prologue starts with Leon and Claire entering the RPD and firing away at a constant onslaught of zombie cops and dogs. The story has been slightly adjusted here to accommodate the game’s style. In the normal Resident Evil 2, Leon and Claire meet at a gas station, ride to Racoon City, and are separated following a car crash. Here’s Leon, already sporting his police uniform, and it looks like the two just met as they run into the RPD.

This Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot looks like it could be a pretty fun inclusion at Dave & Buster’s or other arcades for adults, even though it feels different from traditional Resident Evil games. They’re not sure how widely available the game cabinet will be when it’s ready to go out, but with how rare arcades are these days, users likely won’t find it unless they live in a larger city. This Resident Evil 2: Dead Shot would be very exciting just by seeing those features and gameplay of this video game; users will love it.
