GTA 6 in Turmoil? Rockstar removes developers before launch

New Delhi: Before releasing the most-awaited GTA 6, they have created a storm in making this biggest launch. The days after, fans started counting down to the most anticipated game of the decade. Rockstar Games, known for its perfectionism and secrecy, landed in the middle of a significant controversy. Recently, the studio fired between 30 and 40 developers across its UK and Canada offices, sparking much confusion, outrage, and speculation across the gaming community. However, while GTA 6 has been hyped for its revolutionary open world and dual protagonists, this sudden wave of layoffs has cast a shadow over the excitement. With the GTA 6 already surrounded by rumours, leaks, and wild fan theories, this controversy has only deepened the mystery behind Rockstar’s most ambitious title ever.

Now there will be questions like what is actually happening at Rockstar. On October 30, Rockstar reported terminating dozens of staff working on GTA 6. The parent company, Take-Two Interactive, justified the decision as disciplinary action for violations of company policy. According to the Independent Workers Union of Great Britain, many of those fired were active union members or trying to organise one. Rockstar of blatant union busting, claiming that all the fired developers were part of a private Discord group discussing workplace issues.

This triggered immediate protests outside Rockstar North’s office in Edinburgh, with calls for the studio to reinstate the affected employees. Rockstar tells a very different tale. In a statement shared by some sources, the company has claimed the firings were due to leaks and discussions of the confidential material. The studio emphasised that it has zero tolerance for breaches of trust, especially after the massive GTA 6 leaks in 2022 that exposed the unfinished footage to millions online. The company insists the decision wasn’t linked to union activities, calling the allegations misleading. With the protests underway and social media buzzing, public opinion remains divided.

While this controversy may not delay the GTA 6 release, it has undeniably cast a shadow over Rockstar’s final stretch of development. The layoffs echo a broader trend in the gaming industry, where studios from Microsoft to Amazon have trimmed thousands of jobs this year amid AI integration and shifting priorities. GTA 6, fans are still counting down to its release window, but the drama behind the scenes adds a new layer to its already explosive anticipation. Rockstar’s biggest game might also be its most controversial yet.
