New Delhi: As we all know, recently, Samsung has officially discontinued its Galaxy Z TriFold. Samsung Galaxy Z TriFold was officially introduced on December 2, 2025, and within only 3 months, Samsung had to discontinue its latest innovation.
Now, there are several reasons to discontinue this innovation. In this article, we are going to see those reasons that led Samsung to discontinue its Galaxy Z TriFold.
Reason 1: Expensive and Complex Output
Galaxy Z TriFold requires complex engineering, including two separate hinges and specialized materials to manage the stress on the triple-folding display. Rising costs for the essential components, such as RAM and flash memory, further eroded the already thin profit margins.
And after launching this device, many of the tech enthusiasts tested this device, and there was a common opinion that there is no one who wanted a triple-folding device in daily day-to-day life.
Reason 2: Research Purpose
There are several smartphone brands that have introduced their triple-folding devices, such as Huawei and Tecno. Galaxy Z TriFold was especially designed primarily as the technological showcase to demonstrate Samsung’s engineering capabilities and the foldable leadership, instead of a product intended for mass-market adoption.
And many of the users don’t think that they wanted a triple-folding device, so that’s why many of the users didn’t purchase this device.
Reason 3: Narrow Market
Galaxy Z TriFold was priced at $2,899 (roughly Rs 2,19,990), the targeted audience was restricted to affluent early adopters and tech enthusiasts. This niche appeal, combined with the extreme production challenges, made it an unsustainable business model in the smartphone industry.
Strategic shift having achieved its aim of demonstrating the form factor, Samsung has chosen to discontinue the device shortly after the introduction to aim resources on more mainstream, scalable foldable projects.
