New Delhi: Samsung’s next-generation foldable could bring notable camera upgrades, according to some sources and reports. The company is going to continue its gradual push to narrow the camera gap between its premium foldable phones and the flagship Galaxy S-series devices. After unveiling a 200MP primary camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung appears to be building on that foundation rather than making a complete overhaul. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 is also expected to be unveiled in 2026 and is tipped to receive targeted upgrades to its telephoto and ultrawide cameras.
The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 will continue to use the 200MP primary camera sensor, similar to the previous Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy S25 Ultra. The device is also stated to keep the existing 10MP selfie camera, with no under-display camera planned. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 camera setup is rumoured to come with a 12MP telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom, an upgrade from the current model’s 10MP sensor. This sensor may be shared with the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra. Additionally, Samsung is reported to be planning a significant jump for the ultrawide camera. The device could feature a 50MP ultra-wide camera sensor, replacing the 12MP unit used on the Galaxy Z Fold 7.
Samsung’s future foldable lineup may expand beyond the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Flip 8 to include a latest passport-style foldable or a more affordable Fold FE version, although these models remain speculative with no official confirmation yet. Samsung’s camera strategy appears focused on gradually bringing Galaxy S-series imaging hardware to its premium foldable device. Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 could be around 10% thinner and lighter than the existing model. The device could use laser drilling metal plate technology to reduce the crease on the inner display.
