New Delhi: Tesla CEO Elon Musk has recently confirmed that its recently introduced Grokipedia, his AI-powered alternative to Wikipedia, will eventually be renamed as Encyclopedia Galactica after the platform reaches its higher standard of quality. Elon Musk has also posted on the X platform, where he announced this thing. The announcement made by Elon Musk reflects his long-standing fascination with science fiction and his ambition to build a futuristic and AI-driven repository of human knowledge.
When Grokipedia is good enough (long way to go), we will change the name to Encyclopedia Galactica.
It will be an open source distillation of all knowledge, including audio, images and video.

In that post, Elon Musk said, “When Grokipedia is good enough, we will change the name to Encyclopedia Galactica. It will be an open source distillation of all knowledge, including audio, images and video.” The Encyclopedia Galactica is a nod to a classic science fiction, but is also highlighting Isaac Asimov’s Foundation series, where it represents a vast compendium of all human knowledge. Elon Musk’s rebranding plan is to signal his vision for the Grokipedia to evolve into a more expansive, multimedia-rich, and universally accessible knowledge platform. Now, there will be some of the users who don’t even know about what Grokipedia is, so it is an AI-generated encyclopedia which targets to deliver truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth, and this was a statement given by Elon Musk when it was launched for the first time.
Unlike Wikipedia, which relies on human editors, Grokipedia uses the Grok, xAI’s large language model, to generate and fact-check articles. This platform is centralised, which means the users cannot directly edit entries. But while still in its early stages, Grokipedia has already offered thousands of articles and is positioned as a rival to Wikipedia by just focusing on speed, scale, and AI-driven accuracy. Despite Elon Musk’s claim that Grokipedia will be a massive improvement over Wikipedia, early users have flagged factual errors and ideological slants. One entry falsely claimed that former presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy took on a significant role in DOGE after Elon Musk’s departure, despite Ramaswamy having left months earlier.
Grok, the AI chatbot behind the Grokipedia, has also faced controversy. In July, it shared antisemitic content, including posts praising Adolf Hitler. xAI has later apologized for that, attributing the incident to a flawed code update.
