New Delhi: China has declared its commitment to offering consular protection and support for two Chinese employees of smartphone manufacturer Vivo who were arrested in India. The foreign ministry spokesperson, Mao Ning, urged authorities not to exhibit bias against Chinese companies and assured that the Chinese government strongly backs the protection of the legal rights and interests of Chinese companies.
The Enforcement Directorate in India had recently apprehended two senior Vivo India unit employees, a move contested by the company. The individuals are set to appear in court on Tuesday, following their custody by the Enforcement Directorate. This incident follows the arrest of four industry executives, including a Chinese national, from Vivo’s Indian unit two months ago on alleged money laundering charges, which the company has refuted.
