Bluesound announced native Apple Music support on October 20, bringing the streaming service directly into its BluOS Controller app through a free software update. The addition allows compatible wireless speakers, music streamers and soundbars to play Apple Music directly, reducing dependence on a phone or tablet to deliver the audio.
The change addresses a practical gap for Apple Music subscribers using Bluesound equipment. Listeners can now sign in through BluOS and access the service within the same interface used to manage their home audio system. An active Apple Music subscription is required.
With the new integration, the BluOS player handles the music stream itself. The phone or tablet provides playback controls, while the audio device receives the music directly. According to BluOS, this reduces reliance on the mobile device, its connection and its battery during listening.
Bluesound’s announcement names the PULSE FLEX wireless speaker, NODE music streamer and PULSE CINEMA soundbar as examples of products that can access the service. Listeners can play Apple Music on one compatible player or group several players to hear the same music across multiple rooms. Existing AirPlay 2 support remains available alongside the integration.
The rollout also extends beyond Bluesound. BluOS confirmed support across compatible products from NAD Electronics, PSB Speakers, Cyrus Audio, DALI Speakers and Monitor Audio. Apple Music joins services already supported by the platform, including Tidal, Spotify, Qobuz and Deezer.
Apple Music playback was already possible on compatible Bluesound equipment through AirPlay. BluOS’s earlier support guidance also described a Mac system-audio workaround for transmitting CD-quality lossless audio. The latest announcement introduces direct service integration, giving subscribers another way to access their music through BluOS.
One technical detail remains unspecified: the announcement does not state the playback bitrate, maximum resolution or whether the new integration supports Apple Music’s lossless and high-resolution lossless formats. Apple offers both formats within its service, but the Bluesound announcement does not establish which audio quality the integration delivers.
Bluesound says the update is available from October 20. Owners of compatible players can access the feature through the latest BluOS software and sign in to their Apple Music account using the Controller app.
