Mahindra XEV 9S launch marks a bold step in India’s EV revolution

New Delhi: Mahindra has officially unveiled its most-awaited and anticipated Mahindra XEV 9S in India, with an introductory price of Rs 19.95 lakh ex-showroom. Mahindra XEV 9S is marked as India’s first authentic electric origin 7-seater SUV with three rows. The model is built on Mahindra’s INGLO platform, and it is priced Rs 1.95 lakh lower than the XEV 9e, despite sharing the same architecture. Test drives will begin on December 5, with the bookings opening on January 14, 2026, and deliveries scheduled to start from January 23, 2026. The company claims that the XEV 9S incurs a cost of only Rs 1.2 per km and a maintenance cost of 40 paise per km.

The Mahindra XEV 9S borrows cues from the XEV 9e and the XUV.e8 concept showcased in 2022, adopting a clean visual appeal. Mahindra’s Heartcore design philosophy is reflected in its upright stance and sporty proportions. It sports a closed grille, connected LED DRLs and triangular LED headlamps that emphasise its electric identity. A long bonnet and muscular arches add to its road presence. It comes in six colour options: Desert Myst, Everest White, Midnight Black, Nebula Blue, Ruby Velvet, and Stealth Black.

Mahindra XEV 9S comes with a 59 and 79 kWh battery pack; it has superfast charging capabilities, which can charge 20%-80% in 20 minutes with a 180 kW DC charger and with a 140 kW DC charger. All variants are compatible with fast chargers up to 175 kW. A full charge will enable users to range over 500 km in real-world conditions, the company claims. It features a 2,762mm wheelbase and a 205mm ground clearance, and it maintains SUV-ready proportions. It also offers a 150-litre frunk and up to 527 litres of cargo space if the third row is folded. It strives to combine premium experience and functionality, it sports a coast-to-coast triple screen setup spanning the dashboard, integrating a digital driver display, central touchscreen and passenger screen. Two additional displays for the rear, along with the BYOD mounting, turn the cabin into an entertainment-focused space. Qualcomm Snapdragon chips support the digital ecosystem.

The cabin includes 2nd row sliding seats with a 60:40 split, the third row has a 50:50 split, and the second row offers ventilation, sliding and reclining adjustment and a Lounge Desk on higher trims. A panoramic sunroof, soft-touch materials and laminated acoustic glass enhance the feeling of openness and reduce external noise. Even the base variants come equipped with sliding and reclining second row seats, panoramic sunroof, wireless charging and multiple climate controls. Upper trims come with upgraded features such as a 16-speaker Harman Kardon setup with Dolby Atmos, dual-zone climate control, leatherette seats, multi-colour ambient lighting and an AR-enabled VisionX heads-up display.

It also offers up to seven airbags, including a driver knee airbag on top trims. Safety tech includes drowsiness detection, an electronic brake booster, an electronic parking brake, blind spot detection, TPMS with live pressure readings and all-wheel disc brakes. ADAS capabilities vary across trims. Pack Two introduces Level 2 ADAS with radar and vision camera, while Pace Three includes Level 2+ ADAS with five radars and advanced functions like lane centring, emergency steering assist, blind spot detection and cross-traffic alerts. The Secure360 system adds live viewing, video recording and remote communications.
