New Delhi: Demand for Kia’s vehicles has been growing and the company is planning to expand its manufacturing capacity in India as well. The South Korean automobile group plans to sell 4.1 lakh vehicles globally each year by 2030 and India is likely to be an even bigger market for the company.
Kia India saw a good year of growth in 2026. In the first seven months of this year, the company sold 1,91,949 vehicles, which is 17% higher than last year’s figure. Kia is now thinking about expanding its production capacity to meet not only domestic demand but also export demand as it expects strong growth.
Currently, Kia can make 4.3 lakh cars per year at the factory at its office in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh. The company is planning to expand more capacity and the decision is imminent. The transfer will enable Kia to meet growing demand in coming years.
The company also intends to increase the size, scope and variety of its vehicles in India. Kia has said they will be launching 10 new models including eight electric cars. It covers electric and hybrid vehicles in anticipation of a surge in demand for vehicles that are more environmentally friendly and fuel-efficient.
Kia plans to increase the dealer network as well in India. The company wants to penetrate smaller cities and towns, especially Tier 3 & Tier 4 markets, which have seen an escalating buying power. Kia’s strategy calls for 410,000 sales per year in India by 2030, and a 7.6% market share in the country.
The company also aims to make India more involved in exports. Kia will not only be looking at India as a key sales market but also as an excellent manufacturing and export base with increased local production and a wider model count.
It is believed that Kia’s expansion plans could help it gain a further foothold in India when the country’s passenger vehicle market is very competitive and is witnessing the growth of sales of electrified vehicles, which is also expected to expand the dealer network.c
