New Delhi: Meridian Track Edition is Jeep India’s latest attempt to refresh its three-row SUV, without making any of the mechanical or platform-level changes. To improve the mechanics, this newest upgrade focuses almost entirely on cosmetic differentiation and the cabin comfort additions in this latest SUV. While the sliding second row adds genuine usability, the rest of the package leans heavily on the visual updates, including the blacked-out exterior elements, some decals, revised interior finishes, and additional badging.
The underlying powertrain remains unchanged, with a similar 2.0-litre diesel engine that has been in service since the Meridian’s introduction. This approach reflects the cautions of the investment strategy rather than the product-led push in the heavily crowded SUV segment. Rivals have either unveiled the new-generation platforms or extended powertrain choices to improve relevance. Jeep appears to be expanding the Meridian’s lifecycle through limited-run editions that will create showroom interest without the costs associated with huge engineering updates.
The absence of the mechanical changes also been suggested to control volume expectations, by powertrain upgrades often requiring regulatory re-validation, and with the higher development spend, some manufacturers typically justify only when the demand growth is anticipated. The Track Edition functions more as a proactive refresh than a planned evolution. It will keep the Meridian visually current and comfort-focused, it will stop short of addressing the broader competitive pressures within the premium SUV market in India.
