Ford raises the stakes with supercharged Mustang Dark Horse SC

New Delhi: Ford has recently changed its game as they reveal the Mustang Dark Horse SC, which gets a supercharged 5.2-litre V8 engine and is mated with the seven-speed dual clutch gearbox. The carmaker will be releasing the car’s official power numbers later this year. The Dark Horse SC will be below the Mustang GTD, which delivers performance of 815 bhp and right above the Dark Horse that produces 500 bhp, and that should be a clue for most of how the performance figures will look. IN the previous generation of Ford Mustang Shelby GT500, with the 5.2-litre V8 and the same gearbox, it made 760 bhp and 847 Nm of torque.

The Dark Horse SC also gets MagneRide dampers with the newest software baked in. It is also revised springs, with firmer rates, new stabiliser bars, modified front control arms and updated front and back knuckles. Inside the bonnet, Ford also given a lightweight magnesium strut tower brace. Braking hardware on the Dark Horse SC includes six-piston Brembo callipers at the front and four-piston units at the back as standard. Grip comes from Pirelli P Zero R tyres mounted on 20-inch aluminium wheels, which gives the SC a focused performance setup straight from the word go.

The aluminium hood has also been reworked, delivering 2.5 times more downforce than the regular hood vent. With the rain tray removed, the open section is five times larger, and aerodynamic upgrades are completed by the new rear diffuser. These aerodynamic components generate up to 218 kg of rear downforce at speeds of 289 kph. The Dark Horse SC Track Pack borrows the GTD’s variable traction control system, coming with the five selectable levels of intervention, which also includes a completely disabled stability control mode for track use. The SC comes with the GTD-inspired flat-bottom, leather-wrapped steering wheel, paired with Alcantara upholstery and carbon-fibre trim. Recaro sport seats upholstered in leather and Dinamica come as the standard for the Track Package, while they are optional for the regular Dark Horse SC.
