New Delhi: Apple promises to unveil big news at its Cupertino headquarters today, September 9. The firm dubs the surprise and shine as “Surprise and Shine.” The event gets underway at 10 a.m. in the Pacific Time and will be available for live streaming on Apple’s website, the Apple TV app, and YouTube.
This event has another significance as well. It’s the first major product launch under the leadership of new Apple CEO John Ternus. He succeeded Tim Cook, who was appointed last month as CEO of the company.
Foldable iPhone
Talk about Apple’s foldable phone really has been underway for years. That phone could finally be here today. Some reports have it being the iPhone Ultra, or even the iPhone Fold. It will be expected to open in the book fashion. When closed it acts as a regular phone when operating. It opens up to a larger screen, nearly of a tablet’s size.
Rumors indicate that the display would be around 5.5 inches around the phone and nearly 7.8 inches on the inner display. Also, Apple is working to prevent the obvious issue on foldable phones: the middle crease line that appears in the display’s middle when it’s open.
New iPhone 18 Pro models
Apple is also expected to show off two new iPhones: the iPhone 18 Pro and the iPhone 18 Pro Max. Interestingly, there won’t be a regular iPhone 18 this year. Apple is apparently keeping that model, as well as a new iPhone Air, for next spring.
A new chipset, named A20 Pro, will be used by the new Pro phones, which will be faster and more efficient. They can also feature an enhanced camera setup.
New Watches, AirPods, and more
Apple typically unveils new smartwatches in September along with the new phones and that’s no different this year. The Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 are reportedly available. The new AirPods, which may be called AirPods 5, also could be included.
Apple may also provide more information on Apple Intelligence and Siri, which were both previously mentioned at the developer conference in June this year.
Why this event matters
September typically is Apple’s largest event of the year. This one isn’t just any old one though. It’s a new era under the new leadership of the company and it could be a whole new ball game for an iPhone for the first time since the launch of the original iPhone in 2007.
The foldable iPhone is being compared to the hype, but in the meantime fans and tech watchers are all poring over Cupertino today to find out whether Apple has another surprise up its sleeve.
