New Delhi: Apple isn’t done with October. The company has sent invites for a second event on October 28, with a hands-on Apple Experience session in Los Angeles. The tagline is “Pro and tell.” Apple’s Greg Joswiak confirmed the date on X, and invites also went out to press and creators, including YouTuber Marques Brownlee.
Apple rarely hides its hints, and this one is barely a hint. “Pro” in the tagline points straight at the MacBook Pro.
The rumor that has circulated for a while is a touchscreen MacBook Pro. That would be a big shift for a company that spent years insisting people don’t want to touch their laptop screens. I’m skeptical until I see how Apple handles it, because bolting touch onto macOS badly is easy to do. But if Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is right, and he usually is on this stuff, it’s coming.
Gurman’s list doesn’t stop there. He expects a new 14-inch MacBook Pro running the M6 chip, an upgraded iMac, and an iPad mini with an OLED display. Treat all of that as reporting rather than confirmation. Apple hasn’t said a word about specific products, and even good sources get details wrong, especially the timing. One earlier Gurman report had the touchscreen model landing a day before the date Apple actually picked.
The iPad mini at least looks likely. Apple’s own website recently hinted at a new one, which is the kind of slip that tends to mean something.
It’s also worth remembering how busy this month has been. Apple has already put out HomeView, a smart home display with a 7-inch touchscreen and a Siri upgraded with Apple Intelligence. There’s also a HomePod mini 2 with new colors and better sound, a new Apple TV 4K built on the A19 chip, and a Home collection of cameras, thermostats and sensors from partners like LG and Schneider. The Apple TV got a lot of attention for its price, and not in a good way.
So the home push came first, and now the computers get their turn. It feels like a deliberate split, and I think it works. Nobody’s competing for attention.
What I’ll be watching is whether the touchscreen MacBook is a real rethink or just a spec bump. The M6 14-inch is the safer bet and probably the one most people will actually buy. The touchscreen one is the gamble.
We’ll know in about a week. Until then, it’s rumor, a clever tagline, and a fairly clear shape of what’s coming.
