Apple TV on Android just got better with Google Cast integration

New Delhi: Apple has recently upgraded the Apple TV application on Android to add Google Cast support, addressing one of the most notable omissions since the application launched earlier this year. The update enables Android phone and tablet users to cast Apple TV content directly to compatible TVs and streaming devices, bringing feature parity closer to the iOS experience and making the application more practical for everyday use. Now there will be some users who don’t know how to use Google Cast on Apple TV on Android. There are steps below:

  • Download or update the Apple TV application for Android from the Google Play Store. The feature is available on the latest version 2.2.0.
  • After updating the application, the Google Cast icon appears at the top right, positioned to the left of the user profile avatar. Tapping the icon opens a Cast to bottom sheet, styled to match Apple TV’s existing design language.
  • The Cast button is also available in the full-screen video player, located next to the mute control.
  • Once Casting begins, the application switches to mini player showing playback status, connected device details and the timeline.

In the cast screen, playback controls include play, pause and 10-second rewind buttons. Tapping the mini player opens a complete screen portrait interface with the large rewind, forward and play controls, along with the scrubbler, audio options and subtitles. The background artwork displays the show or movie poster, with the swipe-down gesture to return to the home screen.

Along with the latest Google Cast integration, Apple has also slightly refined the application’s homescreen icon, making the logo appear smaller within its circular frame. Google Cast has significantly improved how the Apple TV fits into an existing TV and streaming setup. Instead of relying on workarounds or separate devices, users can now start playback on their phone or tablet and move it to the big screen with minimal friction. It also makes Apple TV+ more competitive on Android, where many rival streaming applications have long supported Cast by default. It is also interesting that Apple added the feature when Netflix removed it.
