New Delhi: Apple is reportedly closing down its 121-person AI team based in San Diego and opting to consolidate the group at its Austin, Texas, office. The Data Operations Annotations team, responsible for assessing Siri queries, was informed of the relocation to Austin, with California employees having until the end of February to decide whether to move. Those opting not to relocate will face termination on April 26.
Previously anticipating a move to a new Apple campus in San Diego, employees are reluctant to relocate to Texas. Those choosing to move will have until the end of June, along with a $7,000 relocation stipend. Employees declining the move will receive four weeks of severance, an additional week per year of service, and six months of health insurance. The AI team also has offices in China, Ireland, Spain, and India.
