New Delhi: Apple recently releases latest software upgrade to fix a security issue that could enable the deleted application notifications to remain on iPhones and iPads.
This fix comes after the report by the Federal Bureau of Investigation in the US was able to access the notifications content from the Signal application on iOS, even after the application had been uninstalled. This issue has been addressed in the latest upgrade iOS 26.4.2 and iPadOS 26.4.2 released on April 22.
The actual problem was linked to its Notification Services system. Notifications that were supposed to be deleted might sometimes remain stored on the iPhone due to a logging issue. Even after an application was uninstalled, some notification data might still exist on the iPhone or iPad.
This vulnerability has been assigned the identifier CVE-2026-28950. This issue has now been fixed with the improved data redaction by ensuring that such notifications are no longer retained unexpectedly.
Any previously stored notifications linked to the deleted application will be automatically cleared after this software update. The company also confirmed that in the future, notifications from the deleted application will not be preserved.
Users do not need to take any additional steps beyond installing the upgrade. This fix works automatically once the iPhone or iPad is upgraded.
