New Delhi: Apple Music has recently reported that it is going to unveil its system for improving transparency around AI in music. The platform has recently launched Transparency Tags, which enable the record labels and music distributors to indicate when the AI has been used in parts of a song, artwork, or music video.
The announcement was shared with industry partners through the newsletter on March 4. The framework is intended to help track how the AI is being used in music production and related to creative work.
Apple Music’s latest tagging system focuses on four main areas where the AI could be used in the creation process: Artwork, Track, Composition, and Music Video. The labels and distributors can apply multiple tags to the same content if the AI is involved in more than one part of the project.
Apple’s approach places the responsibility for the disclosure on labels and distributors instead of the streaming platform itself. The tagging system works similarly to other metadata, such as genres and credits. Apple has also noted that it will rely on labels and distributors to decide whether AI has been used in a meaningful way in the content they submit.
The tagging content properly is an important step in helping the music industry gather the data and develop policies around the use of AI. Apple’s approach differs from that of the other streaming services.
The Deezer also attempts to detect AI-generated content directly on the platform instead of relying on labels or distributors to report it.
