New Delhi: It has recently reported that Apple has started to gearing up for an major upgrade to its built-in photo editing tools across its iPhone, iPad, and Mac, which are going to powered by Apple’s Intelligence platform.
This upgrade is likely to feature with iOS 27, iPadOS 27, and macOS 27 later this year. These latest editing tools are stated to include options such as expand, enhance, reframe, and an improved Clean Up tool. Apple is expected to preview the changes at WWDC 2026, which has been scheduled from June 8 to June 12.
Apple is now testing the latest set of AI-powered editing features that can expand, enhance, and reframe images. These tools are expected to run on the device and complete the processing within seconds. Currently, the Photos application on Apple devices offers four main editing options: Adjust, Filters, Crop, and Clean Up.
Clean Up is the only AI-based feature, enabling users to remove unwanted objects from images. Users have reported mixed results, including visual artifacts and inaccurate fills after object removal.
This upcoming latest upgrade is likely to unveil the latest Apple Intelligence Tools section within the editing interface. This will include features such as extend, reframe, enhance, and an improved Clean Up tool. This expand feature will enable the users to extend an image beyond its original frame by generating additional content. Enhance will improve elements like lighting, color balance, and overall image clarity by using AI.
Reframe will be expected to focus on spatial photos specially designed for the Vision Pro headset, letting the users adjust the perspective after capturing the image. This might enable shifting the aim from one angle to another within the same images. Apple is now trying to catch up in this space, as Google has provided AI photo editing tools on Pixel devices for years, including Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and image expansion.
