Apple launches iPhone 17 series, India plays key role in global supply chain

New Delhi: Apple’s September 2025 event was all about the new iPhone 17 series and accessories, but one thing stood out apart from the gadgets, India’s growing role in Apple’s production story. Let’s break it down in a simple way, Apple launched four new iPhones: iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

The biggest hype is around the iPhone 17 Air. At just 5.6mm thick, it is Apple’s slimmest iPhone ever. It feels more like holding a card than a phone. Honestly, this model seems designed for people who love sleek looks and light weight more than chunky power.

Design and Durability

Apple has brought back aluminium bodies in Pro models to fix overheating issues and make them lighter. On top of that, there’s a new Ceramic Shield 2 glass that is said to be three times more scratch-resistant and less reflective outdoors.

The iPhone Air uses titanium, and Apple proudly says it’s stronger and more bend-resistant than any iPhone before.

Displays and Colours

Inside, all phones run on the new A19 or A19 Pro chipsets, which bring faster speed, better gaming graphics, and AI improvements.

The iPhone 17 Pro models now have three 48MP “Fusion” cameras with up to 8x zoom, plus an 18MP selfie camera that uses “Center Stage” for video calls.

Battery is better too. The Pro Max crosses 5000mAh, and even the super-thin Air claims all-day life. Also, charging is faster, 50% in just 20 minutes.

Every model comes with 120Hz ProMotion displays and Always-On options.
Colour choices are fun this time:

  • iPhone 17: Lavender, Mist Blue, Sage, Black, White

  • Pro Models: Deep Blue, Cosmic Orange, Silver

  • Air: Space Black, Cloud White, Light Gold, Sky Blue

eSIM Push and Storage

Apple is going bold with eSIM. The iPhone Air doesn’t even have a SIM slot, only eSIM worldwide. This saves space for a bigger battery but could be tough for people still using physical SIM cards.

Storage now starts at 256GB across all models, which is great for photo and video lovers.

Now, here’s the part that should make Indians proud. A large share of iPhone 17 production is happening right here in India. Foxconn and Tata Electronics are leading the charge, with new plants coming up in Bengaluru and Hosur.

Reports suggest that most iPhone 17 units for the US market will be made in India. Analysts believe Apple’s India-made iPhone exports could touch $40 billion by FY26, with 80% of the units going abroad.

This shows Apple’s strategy, moving away from over-dependence on China and making India its second home for iPhone production. Honestly, this is a big confidence boost for India’s tech manufacturing dreams.

AirPods Pro 3 and Apple Watch Series 11

Not just iPhones, Apple also launched AirPods Pro 3 with better fit, longer 10-hour battery, real-time health tracking, and even live translation using AI.
On the wearable side, Apple Watch Series 11 and Ultra 3 bring sleep tracking, hypertension alerts, and recycled aluminium. Ultra 3 even has satellite connectivity and the best-ever Apple Watch battery life.
