New Delhi: Apple has recently asked Google to explore setting up servers for the latest version of Siri, powered by Google’s Gemini AI models. The development suggested that Apple could rely more on Google’s cloud infrastructure as it works to scale its delayed AI-driven Siri upgrade.
Google’s Gemini models would underpin the next generation of its Apple Foundation Models, and they would help to power future Apple Intelligence features by including a more personalized Siri. Apple Intelligence would continue to run on the device and through its Private Cloud Compute system, but it did not specify whether parts of the upgraded Siri would operate on Google’s cloud.
Google to look into setting up servers that meet Apple’s privacy requirements for the Gemini-powered Siri. While Apple has previously stated that Apple Intelligence would continue to run on the devices and via its Private Cloud Computer system, it did not clarify whether certain AI workloads could be processed on Google’s cloud.
Apple’s broader approach to the cloud computing and those planned data centre investment. Apple has taken a more measured approach to infrastructure spending. Apple’s own AI infrastructure, including the Private Cloud Compute system, has so far seen limited usage.
Only about 10% of its available Private Cloud Compute capacity is being used on average. Apple’s expanding of its reliance on the Google’s servers would mark a highlighted step in its AI strategy, potentially it will going to enabling the company to deploy more advanced features faster.
It plans to make the assistant more personalized and capable of understanding the user context across applications. The rollout was later been delayed, with the company by citing the need for more further development.
Siri is also expected to have more better understand personal context by drawing on data from emails, messages, calendar entries, photos, and files stored on the device. It might also gain the ability to understand on-screen content, by enabling the users to issue commands based on what is currently displayed, without switching applications.
It is also expected to feature deeper in-app action handling, allowing Siri to complete multi-step tasks such as editing photos, organizing files, or managing reminders within the applications. It is also suggested that Apple is working towards longer, more conversational interactions similar to chatbot-style assistants.
Google’s Gemini models running on Google’s servers, the latest Siri could rely on the external cloud infrastructure for more complex AI processing, while Apple continues to emphasize on-device processing and privacy controls.
