New Delhi: Apple has officially introduced its subscription option for the App Store that will enable developers to offer monthly payments with a 12-month commitment, by offering users a more flexible way to pay for long-term subscriptions.
It brings is that now, instead of paying a big amount of money at once for the whole year, it can be broken down into smaller payments on a monthly basis for one year.
This model is focused on making subscriptions more affordable by splitting annual plans into smaller monthly payments, while still requiring users to commit to the full duration. Users can also cancel at any point, but the subscription will only stop renewing after they complete the agreed set of payments.
This feature is now available for developers through App Store Connect and can be experimented with using Xcode. It has not yet gone live for the users.
The rollout will begin from next month, along with the iOS 26.5 and related platform upgrades, and it will also be available globally on devices running iOS 26.4 or later.
This big shift with this upgrade is how the subscriptions are structured for the users. Rather than paying the full annual fee upfront or opting for the standard month-to-month plan, the users will now get an option that sits in between.
Users can pay in monthly installments while committing to a 12-month cycle. The upfront cost is lower, but the overall commitment remains similar to an annual plan. Apple is also unveiling more transparency into the process.
