Apple could expand lineup with affordable MacBook and fresh iPad

New Delhi: Apple began its week-long product launch by introducing its budget-friendly iPhone 17e and the refreshed iPad Air, which is powered by the M4 chip. Apple is now expected to continue to make announcements, leading to its March 4 event.

Apple might debut its latest entry-level MacBook and refresh its base iPad model. The update to the MacBook Air with the M5 chip and the higher-end MacBook Pro models with the M5 Pro and M5 Max processors are also awaited.

Some reports also indicate that Apple could unveil the MacBook powered by an A-series chip rather than its M-series processors. This device is expected to use a variant of the A18 Pro chip. It might not match the performance of the current M-series machines in sustained workloads, but it could narrow the gap with earlier M1-based MacBooks in everyday tasks.

The model might feature a 12.9-inch display and an aluminum chassis. It could also be provided in a broader range of colours than Apple’s traditional MacBook finishes. If this launches, the device would mark the shift in Apple’s Mac strategy by expanding the A-series architecture beyond the iPads and iPhone into an entry-level MacBook.

Apple is also expected to upgrade its entry-level iPad, which currently sits below the iPad Air in the portfolio. The 12th generation model is tipped to receive the A18 chip, and potentially allow the Apple Intelligence features. Design changes are unlikely based on some recent update cycles.

The latest iPad could adopt Apple’s in-house modem for Wi-Fi and 5G connectivity, similar to the iPad Air with M4.

Apple is expected to complete its MacBook Pro range with the models powered by the M5 Pro and M5 Max chip. The refreshed MacBook Air with the standard M5 chip and an upgraded Mac Studio are also awaited. Reports also suggested that the update is for the Apple TV 4K, second-generation HomePod mini, and the latest Studio Display models.
