New Delhi: Broadcom has officially announced it has extended its deal with Apple with a new contract that now covers the next decade, until 2031. This multi-year contract will have Broadcom produce custom application-specific integrated circuits for certain applications.
They will be incorporated into several versions of Apple devices. Details of the financial aspects were, however, not made available.
Apple and Broadcom have been working together for years, where the former provides networking and connectivity parts for Apple gadgets, such as Bluetooth, Wi-Fi components, and 5G chips. But Apple has shrunk its dependency on the firm by announcing combined Wi-Fi and Bluetooth chips for iPhones, iPads and Macs and also providing some components for cellular networking which are compatible with the firm’s own modulator.
The deal focuses specifically on custom-made silicon, required to create AI infrastructure. In addition, Apple has been creating specific AI chips for the server, which are known as Baltra and will be used next year.
Broadcom technology is set to be used for Apple Intelligence features on the cloud, such as powerful next-generation text and image generation, and information summarization.
