New Delhi: Google has recently reported they have started to wind down the Pixel Studio applications on its Pixel devices. This application is gradually losing its generative AI features, and Google has shifted its aim to other image-generation and editing tools within the Gemini, such as Google Photos and Google Messages.
Pixel Studio was first debuted in 2024, along with the Pixel 9 series, as part of Google’s broader push into on-device AI experiences.
Pixel Studio was introduced with the Pixel 9, alongside other latest applications like Screenshots and Weather. It replaced the older Markup tool and brought Material 3 Expressive design alongside AI-powered editing features. The users could generate images using the text prompts, create stickers, and remove parts of the image with generative AI.
The latest update has started rolling out to the Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series, and is scaling back these capabilities. After installing the latest update, users will no longer see the prompt-based editing tools.
The application now aims only at the basic editing functions like cropping, drawing, highlighting, and adding text. It also continues to serve as a simple image editor, often used for editing screenshots, but without its earlier AI-powered tools. The basic editor will remain available for the users.
Google has also reported plans to remove the prompt-based image generation and sticker creation features entirely in the future. Google will redirect Pixel Studio users to Nano Banana in the Gemini while providing an easy export tool for all of the users’ creations.
Google has also clarified that all the Pixel Studio-powered integrations will continue to work as expected on the existing devices during the period. Pixel Studio, as a standalone AI image tool, Google has also appeared to be consolidating its generative features.
Aiming for tools like Remix in Google Messages and various AI-powered editing options in Google Photos. Nano Banana 2 was recently unveiled within the Gemini applications, by positioning it as the new hub for image generation features previously available on the Pixel Studio.
