Pinterest gets competition as Google rolls out Mixboard

New Delhi: Google has officially rolled out a new mood board application, which they have named Mixboard, and it is going to compete directly with the most popular and most used Pinterest. This application is especially designed to help users brainstorm, design, and visualise ideas through generative technology. This launch marks Google’s latest push into creative AI tools, positioning the application as a direct competitor to Pinterest’s collage features and other digital mood board platforms. Mixboard is currently available in the US as a public beta through Google Labs at the labs.google/mixboard. Google has also unveiled the Discord community for early adopters to share feedback and ideas.

Instead of those traditional mood board applications that rely on users uploading or curating existing images, Mixboard allows people to start with simple text prompts. Google’s AI then it will generates the images, collages, and editable boards that can be refined, combined, or reimagined. This application leverages Google’s Nano Banana image editing model, which has been praised for its ability to handle those complex edits and produce realistic visuals. Users can ask the AI to make small changes, regenerate images for the latest ideas, or create more like this variations.

Google has also stated that the Mixboard is aimed at a wide range of creative needs from home décor and event planning to DIY projects, branding and design brainstorming. Pre-populated boards are also available for those who want to start. This application also integrates text generation, allowing users to create captions or descriptions based on the images on their boards, making it useful for presentations, pitches, or social media content. Mixboard enters the space that has been gaining interest among the younger users. Pinterest’s standalone collage application Shuffles went viral with Gen Z, while startups like the Verse and Landing experimented with AI-driven creative tools. Even the fashion marketplace Depop recently launched collage features for the styling collections. So now let’s see how long it will take to take down the most popular Pinterest.
