New Delhi: ChatGPT Health is now officially available for all eligible (ATG 18+) users in the United States, across all Free, Plus, and Pro plans. The rollout will initially be available online and on mobile for iOS devices, and the company hopes it will make the use of AI for health support more accessible.
Users can link their medical and health information stored in services like Apple Health to ChatGPT Health. Users link their data together, then can ask questions in natural language about lab reports, medications, doctor notes and more. The technology aims to facilitate access to personal health information, rather than read medical documents.
OpenAI maintains that users maintain control of their data. The company stated that any connected medical records will be stored securely using strong encryption techniques and won’t be used to train its AI models or to target advertisements. Apple Health data and conversations in ChatGPT Health will also be protected with strong encryption, which the company said will not be used to train the company’s AI models or to target ads. Memories can be saved from health chats, or for an additional privacy feature, Temporary Chat can be used.
The company also states that their new AI models are able to compare to the performance of clinicians in some tests of medical reasoning. ChatGPT Health, however, is not a substitute for doctors or professional medical advice but intended to help users get information, OpenAI said. Individuals are still advised to seek medical attention to diagnose, treat, or for emergencies.
The product is in its debut less than a day after a Florida pastor filed a lawsuit alleging that the initial medical guidance he received from ChatGPT was so disastrous that he delayed care for a serious health condition. The case has sparked new fears of the dangers of using AI to make healthcare choices. OpenAI took to Twitter to point out that ChatGPT is a tool designed to assist, not replace, the help of a healthcare professional and that human knowledge is still needed when it comes to medical matters.
As ChatGPT Health is made available to everyone in the US, OpenAI is making significant strides toward integrating its AI tools into the everyday experience of healthcare, while simultaneously emphasizing the need for privacy, security, and authoritative medical advice.
