New Delhi: OpenAI has announced that it is going to roll out Codex support inside the ChatGPT mobile application, enabling users to monitor and manage AI-assisted coding tasks directly from their smartphones.
Codex is available in preview on iOS and Android; this upgrade lets users stay connected to ongoing Codex work running on laptops, remote development machines, or managed cloud environments without needing to sit in front of a computer. This feature is specially designed for the longer-running coding tasks where users might need to step in occasionally to review progress, approve actions, or offer additional instructions.
OpenAI’s AI-powered coding system has so far primarily operated via desktop environments. With this latest upgrade, users can connect the ChatGPT mobile application to machines where the Codex is already active and access live project activity remotely.
This application also mirrors the current state of the connected environment by including active threads, approvals, plugins, and project context. This means users can check outputs, review test results, approve commands, change models, or start latest requests from their phones while the actual work continues on the connected machine.
OpenAI also clarifies that files, permissions, credentials, and local configurations remain stored on the original system where Codex is operating. This device also acts as the remote interface, receiving upgrades such as screenshots, terminal activity, code changes, and test outputs in real-time.
A major aim of the upgrade is handling tasks that might take expanded periods to complete. OpenAI stated AI agents are increasingly being used for the longer workflows that still require occasional human input during important decision points.
The user could begin investigating software bugs from their phone, approve coding decisions during the commute, or ask Codex to summarise customer support discussions before meeting. Latest idea to Codex while away from the desk so the system can begin working on it immediately.
Codex inside the ChatGPT mobile application is rolling out in preview for iOS and Android users across all ChatGPT plans, including Free and Go, in supported regions. Users need the latest version of both the ChatGPT mobile applications and the Codex macOS application to access the feature.
